She's in that movie? I'm there!
The presence of an actor doesn't affect my decision to see a movie as much as the director. Generally, the director has more influence over the quality of the movie than the actor.
If I had to choose, here are some names off the top of my head:
Emily Watson
Anne Heche
Hellen Mirren
I never said the presence of an actress draws me to a film more than the work of the director. I just said that if these actresses are in a movie, I will make a point of seeing the movie.
I have never gone to a movie on opening night because of an actress. I have gone to a movie on opening night because of a director. God bless Quentin Tarantino.
So let's see your "Top 5: He Directed That? I'm There!" list.
Posted by: Mitchell at February 2, 2004 07:42 AMI point was that the I usually won't see a movie based on the actors in the film. On second thought that's not entirely true. There are certain actors whose films I'd like to see just because they're in it. I guess, I can't think of many contemporary female actors that fit that bill.
I'll try to come up with a top 5 list for directors.

Here's another one:
Toni Collete
Man, what a versatile actor. If she's in it, I bet the movies interesting, and she's going to do a very good job.
Posted by: Reid at February 3, 2004 11:43 AMSteve Buscemi and William H. Macy are good choices. I've also really liked the Sean Penn films, too.
