Star Trek: The Next Generation

Talk about your favorite episodes and characters. Rant about the problems you had with the series. I know for me, I wished the writers allowed Will Ryker to explore relationships with other females.

Well, I personally enjoyed the repressed Ryker's trips to the holodeck (I haven't watched the show for years . . . do I remember this correctly?). And I think that the frustrated, unsuccessful relationships brought the 'shiny happy people' star trek ethos a little closer to earth, and was more realistic about how weird ship-board relationships would be.

Good to see you here, Chris!

I'm not sure which episodes you're talking about. I'm not also not quite sure what you mean by the frustrated relationships? In other wors, what the heck are you saying? :)

Seriously, when you say frustrated relationships, so you mean relationships like Troi and Ryker? I know, there were a few episodes dealing with Geordi's love-life difficulties.

Max,

I know I remember at least one episode where Ryker had to be interrupted •in fantasia* on the holodeck because of some kind of emergency . . . that's mainly what I'm talking about.

And I do not recall seeing ongoing romantic development (that often) on the show. But it's been awhile, so I could just be out of touch.

Well, they didn't really develop many different romantic relationships in the series. There was Ryker and Troi, of course, which was an on-again-off-again sort of thing.

***Spoiler for those who haven't seen the entire series****

Here are the other romantic relationships that come to mind:

Captain Picard had at least three:

1. Beverly Crusher
2. (The alien on the planet where he learned how to play the flute.)
3. The lady who played the keyboards and was a member of the science team.
4. Vash(sp?)
5. As a cadet, he had a love interest with one of his star fleet classmates.

Vash appeared twice, and I really didn't like her matched up with the Picard. I liked the lady who played the keyboards, but it wasn't meant to be.

There may have been others, but I can't remember. Larri, do you remember any more?

Ryker had too many to count. I know he really fell for that hermaphrodite alien. The rest are too numerous too count.

Worf:
1. Troi
2. The half-Klingon, half-human diplomat. (I can't recall her name now).

Geordi
1. Leah Brahms
2. Kristie, a crewmember on the enterprise.
3. There was this black on the space station, but I can't remember her name.

Data
1. Had that one Enterprise crew member, but I don't remember her name.

Troi
1. She was supposed to marry this one guy, but he was in love with someone else.
2. There was that empath that she fell in love with.
3. Ryker 2, from an alternate universe

She may have fell in love with others that I can't recall.

Crusher:
1. The symbiote alien.

I can't remember the others.
