Movie Word Association

Here's a silly thread. I'll name a film, and others will name a film that comes to mind. Then someone else names another film, etc.

As an example, I might say Star Wars. And someone may respond by saying War of the Worlds.

OK? Here's the first film:

Posted by: Mitchell at January 30, 2004 11:17 AM

Body Double was Brian DePalma's homage to Hitchcock's Rear Window. Part of a plot involves a voyeur. It's a thriller so "kill" in View To a Kill sort of triggered the response.

Of course the title, Who Framed Roger Rabbit reminds me once again of Roger and Me because of the now infamous "rabbit" scene.

However, I will say, Harvey because of the rabbit angle.

The Original Kings of Comedy

Posted by: Mitchell at February 11, 2004 03:19 PM

I don't get that, Mitchell.

I thought of King of Comedy, but that's lame, so the next thing I thought of was After Hours because it was a comedy directed by Martin Scorsese (who also directed King of Comedy).

Posted by: joel at April 8, 2004 11:51 PM

Silence of the Lambs

Joel - Here's how my brain zig-zagged. The Last Starfighter = video game test = pulled into alternate life = pulled into video game = Tron.

Posted by: Grace at April 9, 2004 02:44 AM

Joel - Sorry! I think I misunderstood your question. Please disregard the second half of my earlier comment. I'm not familiar with the movie in Mitchell's comment but hmmm... maybe... Tron = T-R-O-N = N-O-R-T = N-O-R-T-H = North. Just guessing...

Posted by: Grace at April 9, 2004 03:26 AM

You're not familiar with North? This is the Rob-Reiner-directed film that inspired Roger Ebert to write:

"I hated this movie. Hated hated hated hated hated this movie. Hated it. Hated every simpering stupid vacant audience-insulting moment of it. Hated the sensibility that thought anyone would like it. Hated the implied insult to the audience by its belief that anyone would be entertained by it.
Posted by: Mitchell at April 9, 2004 09:46 AM

This is sooo funny. Sorry guys for all the misunderstanding, but I just wanted to know the connection between the movie North and Tron. I guess I got a little more than I deserved.

"Code of silence" one of those cheesy pre "jean claude van dam" type films with chuck norris.

By the way Pen...that Tron/last starfighter connection...it was very insightful. happy easter everyone!!!!!!!

Posted by: joel at April 9, 2004 09:15 PM

Joel, as much as I would love to take credit for other people's insightfulness, it was Grace who posted that Tron/Last Starfighter connection.

Ok, I think we left off w/ Silence of the Lambs?

Red Dragon (Thomas Harris wrote both books the movies are based on).

Vertigo

Posted by: Reid at April 15, 2004 03:50 PM

I just recently watched "eat a bowl of tea" as I have a copy of it only on vhs though. The film is directed by the same guy who directed "the joy luck club." Overall, the story and entertainment value is good, but there were some themes in the story which threw me some "curveballs" which I wasn't prepared for. if you're in the mood for a "my big fat greek wedding" kind of show or "the bread my sweet" *the scott baio film* then you'll probably like this.

As for Reid's pick of "vertigo" how about this Reid...

What the heck? We're repeating movies left and right here! I mean, of course that's not a BAD thing, but when I said The People Vs. Larry Flynt I was sorta doing it sarcastically because of the repeat of The Hustler. I just think this is going to be kinda not-so-interesting if we just recycle the same seventy movies for eternity.

...but perhaps I'm taking this too seriously!

"jacks or better" a good comedy/drama that appeared a few years ago in the hawaii film festival. it's about a small group of guys getting together for their usual night of cards when the drama of the game uncovers something from their past. I give it a "7" out of "10". I had the privilage of speaking with the director after the film as well and he seems like a very nice guy with a lot of good ideas and insights into film making. *it was a small/low budget film and very hard to find, but I would get it if it were available*
