The draft is a few days a way. What are your thoughts and hopes on the draft? Off the top of my head, here are some of my thoughts.
On the Raiders
- I’ve been hearing Jeanty at #6. To me, they better have high confidence that he’s going to be great–as in all-pro and maybe even HoF caliber. He’s gotta end up on the same level as someone like Josh Jacobs.
- If I had my druthers, I’d prefer the Raiders use the pick for OL or DL. I think I’d prefer a really good CB to Jeanty. I partly feel this way because this is supposedly a good RB class. Solidify the OL or DL and then go get one or two good RBs later. If Membou or maybe Banks is available, I’d be happy with them.
On the Seahawks
- At #18, similar to how I feel about the Raiders, I think the Hawks should either get a really good O- or D-lineman. I’d be open to getting another position player that they believed could be great–e.g., TE or S.
- On a related note, I’m really frustrated with the way the GM has approached FA O-linemen. I felt like getting one good, experienced iOL was really important; and I believed they should have overpaid for this.
- If they don’t go DL in the first round, I hope they pick up one or two later in the draft.
Jags give up quite a lot to move up four spots? That’s a wow.
Yeah, especially since Jags will likely be picking near the top of the round next year.
Announcers said that the Giants offered their 1 and next year’s 1 to the Titans. That’s very enticing. There’s a good chance the Giants will pick in the top 10, maybe even top 5 next year.
Jags get Browns 1st, 4th, 6th
Browns get Jags 1st, 2nd, 4th and 2026 1st
Great trade for the Browns.
Not only does Travis Hunter have to be great, but Lawrence better be good, too–Jags won’t have their 1st to nab a QB next year.
Abdul Carter to the Giants. That DL could be really scary.
I’m guessing this has get the Cowboys and Commanders to think OL.
I hope the Browns don’t choose Membou.
Browns takes the best DT off the board.
I was actually hoping Graham fell to the Cowboys, which was a possibility.
Initially, I would have been happy if the Raiders took him, but some analysts seems to cool on him for some reason, and that cooled my interest a bit.
A little disappointed by the Jeanty pick. I just hope he’s great.
7. Membou to the Jets
8. Tetairoa McMillan to the Panthers. I’m happy the Hawks won’t pick him.
9. Kelvin Banks to the Saints. Seems like a good pick. The one comment I didn’t like about him was that he didn’t finish blocks.
Tyler Warren to the Bears seems like a good pick. If there is a really good OL on the board, that would be a really good pick, too. The Bears OL would take big steps to compete with the Lions and Eagles.
With the Niners, listening to descriptions of Sheuder Sanders, he sounds like a really good fit for the west coast offense.
Anyone on the board, you’d want for the Cowboys?
I guess Jalon Walker, but I’ll be surprised if he doesn’t go in the next two picks.
There’s a chance he’ll be there. All the edge rushers, except for Carter, seemed like bigger gambles. (Walker is a edge/LB, if I’m not mistaken.)
A lot of pundits had the Saints taking a QB. I sort of wished they did, which would have been best for the Cowboys (ie: leaving them with more choices).
Can Dallas move down a bit and acquire an extra pick? I hope someone wants to move up to get a QB, maybe?
You’d prefer the move back?
I kinda hope the Hawks secure a good OL or iDL at #18.
Loveland to the Bears. He is supposed to be a great receiving TE, but Tyler Warren is the more versatile TE (ie: better blocker).
That’s my understanding as well. I don’t like TEs that can’t really block. So I’d prefer Warren.
I’ll be annoyed if the Cowboys take Kenneth Grant. (I’m hoping their experience is Mazi Smith scares them away from Grant.)
Tyler Booker to the Cowboys. Everything I’ve heard about him is good–except his athleticism (He’s 10 yard split was the slowest.) However, I heard he’s really good fit for gap-scheme. That’s Schotty’s wheelhouse. Also, you can’t complain about solidifying the OL, especially since they have to face the Eagles and Giants.
I wonder if the Cowboys tried to move back, but couldn’t. I feel like Booker might have been available a little later. Then again, maybe the Hawks would have taken him if he were available.
Yeah, happy the Cowboys didn’t go RB (which would have been a reach with Jeanty off the board) or WR.
Kenneth Grant to the Dolphins. 🙁
I saw a list that had Walker top 5 in terms of ranking the entire draft, which is why I picked him when you asked about who I wanted Dallas to get. He is falling though.
20. Jahdae Barron to the Broncos
I’ve heard good things about this safety. Now, if Talanoa Hufanga and Drew Greenlaw are healthy and back to form, the Broncos are competing to be the best defense in the league.
22. Omarion Hampton RB to the Chargers
I like this for the Chargers, although this is bad for the Raiders.
The AFC West is getting though.
24. Donovan Jackson, OG to the Vikings
The Vikings added Fries and Kelly from the Colts as well. They’ve really made a strong attempt to improve their iOL. I like this.
Re Barron: Do most have him playing safety in the NFL? He has great speed and isn’t particularly big.
Re Hampton: I have almost no clue what the Chargers need, but I don’t get the sense Hampton is much better than the next couple RBs on the board. I think the Chargers should have gone defense here and take the best available RB in the second.
Re Jackson: No idea about Jackson, but most are saying he is a reach here.
Not sure where Barron would play.
The thing about Hampton is that he’s pretty big (220s). Personally, I prefer big backs like this. Also, the Chargers want to be a physical, run-based offense. So this makes sense to me.
Of all the guards, I liked Jackson the most–I felt the most confident he’d come in a play well right off the bat (high floor guy).
I sort of hope the Cowboys get Dillion Gabriel in the 5th. I probably saw too many good highlights of him, but he looks poised. The knock is he’s only 6 feet, but I think he may have the intangibles.
I don’t think you should want him. Would you want him over Sanders? Based on the comments on Sanders, I like him. My biggest hesistancy is his height, which isn’t all that bad, but if he were 6′ 3″, I’d be sold I think. Some compared him to Kirk Cousins, and I really like Cousins.
Cowboys should go interior DL or secondary.
I was trying to be realistic, but yeah if the Cowboys can use a 5th round pick to get Sanders, I definitely would pick him over Gabriel.
2.35 Nick Emmanwori to the Seahawks
Super athletic S with good size. I’m a little excited, but would have preferred a DT.
2.36 Quinshon Judkins to the Browns
I actually watched a few OSU games, and I liked him more than Henderson. Physical RB (another 220 pounder). I would have been cool if the Raiders got him at some point.
I think most had Emmanwori as a first round guy.
2.40 Tyler Shough to the Saints
Louis Riddick raved about this guy, and I’ve recently heard other positive comments–so this doesn’t totally surprise me. Still, I’m starting to wonder if Shedeur is falling because teams don’t want to deal with Deion.
My first choice for the Cowboys is Alfred Collins, DT from Texas. My second choice may be a reach, but I like Devin Neal, RB from Kansas.
Damn Collins just went to the Niners.
I kinda wanted him for the Seahawks, too.
I heard of Neal. I recall liking what I heard, too.
2.44 Donovan Ezeiruraku to the Cowboys
Edge-rusher. All the edge rushers, besides Carter, seemed like gambles. You like this pick?
Dallas could use an edge rusher and from my understanding he can do that. Not sure if he can play on early downs though.
How’s their iDL? To me, you have no chance if you can’t slow the Eagles rushing attack. Maybe they can find some run-stuffers later?
Yeah, I would have preferred Collins, but he wasn’t available. I think maybe all other DTs were a reach at this point?
I’m actually hoping Dallas goes receiver or RB at this point in the third.
Not many teams seem to be going for DT, so I share your impression.
Yeah, I think the Cowboys should go for a good RB or WR.
2.50 Elijah Arroyo to the Seahawks
I hope this guy can block.
(Raiders traded back twice.)
Carroll loves to trade back for more picks.
2.58 Jack Bech WR to the Raiders
Chris Trappaso’s comments are really positive. The Raiders needed a WR. I hope he’s good. (I really hope the Raiders O-linemen are good.)
I hope the Raiders go OL, DL, or CB.
3.68 Darien Porter (CB) to the Raiders
At 6′ 3″ 198, this is very Seahawk-y/Pete Carroll type of corner. I hope it works out.
Edit: Chris Trappaso describes Porter’s tackling as a “raw,” which I guess means he’s not that good at it. If that’s his main problem, as long as he’s willing to tackle, I’m confident Pete will get him there. Sherm didn’t come in as a good tackler, but became one over time. I’m more excited about this pick.
3.78 Shavon Revel (CB) to the Cowboys
I heard this guy has great talent, but is coming off a serious injury. Dallas taking a gamble, which could pay off big.
He just had a torn ACL. Maybe that’s what you meant by serious injury, but those seem super common nowadays. But I really hoped they picked an offensive player here. They don’t have a fourth round pick.
3.83 Kaleb Johnson (RB) to the Steelers
I like this pick, based on the little I know of Johnson. Seems like he could be a bellcow back.
One thing though: Shedeur in 3rd seems like good value. To pass on him here is not a good sign–unless the Steelers are really confident Rodgers is going to play for them. If the Browns pass on Shedeur that is also not a good sign.
Shedeur goes in the 5th.
To me, using a 4th or 5th from any of the Super Bowl contending teams would have been worth it. If the Lions or Eagles lose their starting QB to an injury, Sanders seems like a guy who could be productive with a good supportting cast/team around him.
If you’re a team like the Steelers, a 3rd or even higher would be worth. I’d prefer going with Sanders than Mason Rudolph.
I have to believe teams were gun-shy because of Deion and the potential drama this would cause for the team. Otherwise, more teams would have been after him. (
3.94 Dillon Gabriel to the Browns
That the Browns went with Gabriel over Shedeur is brutal.
I thought Gabriel was more of a third day pick.
If that. I’m rooting for him, but I would be surprised if he becomes a good QB.
3.92 Jalen Milroe to the Seahawks
As Kurt would say–“Nah.” Given his lack of QB skills, it’s extremely rare for a player like this to develop into a good NFL QB. On the other hand, my sense is that Schneider is not going to take a QB unless he believes there’s a decent chance that QB can become really good, especially in the 3rd round.
One possible exception is if they took him to be a Taysom Hill type of player. But doing so in the 3rd round seems questionable. And I’m not sure if Milroe is open to this.
3.98 Caleb Rodgers (OT)
3.99 Charles Grant (OT) both to the Raiders
Never heard of these guys. Based on Chris Trappaso’s descriptions, I feel pretty good. I hope John Spytek can replicate the success the Bucs have had with their OL. They may not be the best, but they seem to be consistently good.
